iPad has been using the same iOS operating system similar to the iPhone. Therefore, iPadOS is built from the same foundation as iOS but added special capabilities to maximize the function of the large screen on the iPad. “The iPad changes how people work and express their creativity. With iPadOS, we provide interesting capabilities to utilise the broad canvas and its various uses,” Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, said in an official statement uploaded on the Apple website.
iPadOS Features
According to him, Apple redesigned the main home screen for iPadOS, displaying more applications on each page. iPadOS users can add View to the Home screen, including widgets. iPadOS also allows users to access various files and documents simultaneously from the same application thanks to updates in Split View. Users can also review and change applications with Slide Over.
iPadOS will maximize the use of the Apple stylus pen, one of which can mark and block writing on documents or sites by swiping Apple Pencil from the corner of the screen. Apple Pencil is equipped with a prediction and optimization algorithm to reduce latency to 9 milliseconds. iPadOS supports external storage including USB, memory cards and SMB server files from within the Files application. Files are also updated with the ability to share folders via iCloud Drive. While for the Safari browser, iPadOS offers a desktop version of the application that is adjusted to the appearance of the iPad. Just like iOS 13, iPadOS also supports the Dark Mode feature to make the background display of the device dark and comfortable to see while in dim light.
